Our Experience

Karl Scholz
Co-Founder and Principal

Karl Scholz began his career in public relations in the early '90s just as the Internet was emerging as a significant driving force in the consumer and commercial business space. He's worked with many early Internet start-ups as well as several established technology companies, helping them to build lasting communications programs and navigate various communications crises.

Before founding Virtual PR Director, Karl was the PR and Marketing Communications Director for Works, Inc., where he drove internal and external communications strategy as the company transitioned from a procurement solution to a developer of electronic payments management software. During this time, he managed the company's PR agency and solidified the company's analyst and press relations strategy.

Before joining Works, Karl was a senior account manager for Lois Paul & Partners in Boston, one of the country's leading high technology public relations firms. While at Lois Paul, he directed PR strategy for multiple divisions of IBM's Lotus Development Corp. and Tivoli Systems and also managed media and analyst relations for start-up companies such as Tantau Software, Interliant and Streamline Inc. Karl was also part of the team that established Lois Paul's Austin office to capitalize on city's booming and underserviced high tech market. He helped double the Austin office's revenues and triple staff in less than one year – beating company goals by six months.

Prior to joining Lois Paul, Karl worked for Sterling Hager, Inc. a boutique technology PR agency in Boston. There he developed and implemented strategic communications programs for the services division of Digital Equipment Corp. as well as a number of the firm's Internet clients.

Karl holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and Public Relations from Boston University.
